Presently serving as a Christian County, MO Sheriff's Chaplain with ride alongs in addition to his counseling practice.
As Executive Director and Licensed Professional Counselor, I provide oversight to the Counseling Centre while maintaining an active therapeutic practice. My specialty areas include individual, marital, and family therapy, as well as trauma recovery for survivors of sexual abuse and domestic violence. I also work with clients struggling with mood disorders, such as bipolar and dysthymia, and adjustment disorders. Additional areas of focus include anger management, personality disorders, life coaching, and social skills development. Furthermore, I specialize in supporting law enforcement personnel, addressing critical incidents, shootings, and occupational stress.
Dr. Shaffer has had over 43,000 sessions and administered over 10,000 Taylor-Johnson Temperament Analysis Assessments. Additionally, has supervised five interns.
Dr. Shaffer is a renowned expert in counseling law enforcement, having worked with every branch of the force. His practice, CURE Counseling, is the go-to destination for law enforcement agencies in the county, particularly when officers are involved in shooting incidents. Additionally, Dr. Shaffer has conducted fitness for duty assessments for both the Sheriff's Department and the United States Military, demonstrating his expertise in supporting the mental health and well-being of law enforcement professionals.
