Bio

My husband, Andrew, was a LEO for Rolla, Missouri. He was the epitome of everything an officer should be: empathetic, caring, proactive. He had a heart for serving others and his community. He truly wanted to make his community a better place. Andrew developed long COVID symptoms after transporting a COVID positive arrestee to the hospital in 2020. Andrew's long COVID symptoms were severe, and physically he was not going to be able to be an officer any longer. He also began to develop neuropsychiatric symptoms. He struggled with PTSD symptoms from multiple traumatic calls he had worked as an officer, but also was struggling with the loss of his physical health. Andrew died of suicide 9/14/2022, after struggling with the loss of his physical health for nearly two years. I watched his loss of hope as he navigated through the medical system with no answers, and his struggle as he grieved the loss of his career on top of PTSD from some of the calls he serviced. At the time of Andrew's death, I was already an RN. Losing Andrew made me evaluate the healthcare system I was working in, including access to efficient mental health care on an outpatient basis for first responders. I furthered my education to become a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I felt I understood some of the barriers first responders have in getting and receiving mental health treatment, and I wanted to be a resource to help remove some of those barriers. As a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner I offer psychotherapy services, such as CBT and EMDR, as well as mental health medication management in one location. I also offer Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy, which can be helpful for treatment resistant PTSD and Depression. By having a deep understanding of the types of calls first responders service, as well as the barriers and hesitancies first responders may have to navigate when receiving mental health treatment, I hope to be a community resource.
